And they said it would never happen
On Saturday 15th September members of the local brass band community were delighted to see former Phoenix Brass conductor, Gary Greenstock, walk down the aisle on his wedding day. Even Gary’s parents, Jack and Jean, thought they would never see their son got married! It was certainly worth the wait as Gary, looking handsome in his wedding outfit, waited in Sherborne Abbey for the arrival of his bride to be, Karen. She looked stunning and wore a smile all day.
Members of Sherborne Town Band, conducted by Paul Cosh, performed throughout the ceremony concluding with ‘Can’t take my eyes off of you’ as the newly weds prepared to leave the Abbey. In a break from tradition the entire wedding party danced down the aisle, to the spontaneous applause of the other guests. The guest list included past and present members of Phoenix Brass, Sherborne Town Band and Stoke-sub-Hamdon Band, all of which have enjoyed being part of Gary’s brass band career.
A reception followed at Leigh village hall where guests were treated to a superb buffet including a selection of pasties and a welcoming glass of cider. Gary’s speech was a hard act to follow, ensuring that all the years comparing concerts with the band were put to good use. Sadly his jokes have not improved! As a final ‘treat’ for the evening the Sherbavarian Stompers performed their unique style of Bavarian Oom-pah entertainment, with the remaining guests as the percussion section for their final piece, ‘Hootenanny’.
Gary and Karen now jet off to their honeymoon in America with some good memories of a fantastic day. We wish them a long and happy life together.
