2nd Place at Torquay
On Saturday the band took part in the South West Brass Band Association's annual contest in Torquay and were very pleased to achieve 2nd place in the 2nd section. The band played a piece by Goff Richards called The Aeronauts, which the band have enjoyed rehearsing and the trophy brings Phoenix's total of awards to 5 this year. The full results of the second section are:
- City of Bristol
- Phoenix Brass
- Heyl Town
- St.Pinnock
- Weston Super-mare
It was the first contest for Janice Coath (cornet) since joining the band who we are very pleased to welcome but sadly also the last, at least for the moment, for another of our cornet players, John Perry. John moved to London the day after the contest to live with his girlfriend but he already has a place lined up to play with Fulham band and we all wish him the best and hope he will be back over Christmas to come carolling with the band.
Thanks to all the band and our conductor Paul for their effort in rehearsing and performing this test piece and we are now beginning to focus on the Wessex Brass Band Association contest at the Weymouth Pavillion on the 28th November so please some and support the band there.
