Torquay Regionals Disappointment for Local Bands
On Sunday the band all arrived in Torquay for an 8.30am rehearsal at a nearby hotel, a little early for us all and possibly for the the hotel guests having breakfast in the next room, only separated from the band by a curtain! The band were drawn third and we played at about 10.45am, after the performance the band felt content with it's performance and special mention should be made to John Woods (1st Euphonium) who had to borrow a euphonium at the last minute after a valve problem, yet he put in a great performance on stage even playing an unfamiliar instrument. Disappointingly the results didnt go our way with the band being placed 11th out of the 14 bands competing in the 2nd section.
Congratulations go to Shrewton band who won and look set to join the 1st section next year. Overall the 2nd section produced a high standard of playing and musicianship making it an enjoyable day regardless of the results.
Unfortunately the weekend didnt go too well for some other local bands either with Yeovil coming 10th and the championship section and Wincanton 10th in the 3rd section, better luck to everyone next year.
All this said however, the band are now very much looking forward to recording their CD in May and have a year of engagements and further contests to enjoy preparing for. Thanks as always to those who came to Torquay to support the band especially Roger who was unable to play bass due to illness for this contest, yet he was still there supporting the band and we are looking forward to seeing him back playing very soon. Thanks to Paul our MD for all his work leading up to the contest and ongoing support. Here's to all our future success!
