Phoenix Returns to St Benedict's Church
Yesterday afternoon the band were delighted to return to St Benedict’s Church, Glastonbury to perform an afternoon concert. The band last performed in Christmas 2016 which marked a sad occasion as it was the last concert with our MD at that time David Boorer so it was almost “written in the stars” that nearly two years later, David would return to the band as Musical Director and that this was his first concert back with the band.
The band opened the concert with an arrangement of Men of Harlech that started off in its usual traditional ‘grand style’ that later transformed into ‘samba style’! Our recently returned solo cornet player; Anne Stone then performed a beautiful arrangement of Share My Yoke, a piece that holds some very special memories for Anne and what a superb performance she gave.
The concert continued with traditional favourites, new and old to the band including Mr Blue Sky, MacArthur Park, Love Divine and in memory of the 100 years since World War I ended, Hymn to the Fallen.
The concert ended in a quintessentially British style, performing Jerusalem with the congregation waving flags.
The band now look forward to our next concert at St Johns Church, Yeovil on 20th October 2018 at 7pm.
Released On 24th Sep 2018
