Rain Didn't Stop Play
The rain did not stop Phoenix from entertaining the staff and customers at the Windwhistle Inn on Monday. Given the extremely heavy showers, we were a little apprehensive about playing outside, but thankfully the pub kept their function room free and helped us set up inside.
Given the weather, we were extremely pleased to see so many people who turned up to hear the band and enjoy the pub food.
Playing in the function room worked well, as the band could be heard throughout the pub so everyone could enjoy our music and stay dry. We played two sets of music, from a variety of genres. From stage and screen, to classical arrangements and some traditional brass band repertoire.
New Music
One poignant moment was when the band played a new piece of music called "A Hymn for Manchester" which was arranged and composed following the recent bomb attack at the Manchester Arena. All proceeds from the sale of this arrangement are being forwarded to the appeal for the victims of this attack. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families at this time.
New Faces
On a lighter note, the band welcomed a number of new faces to our line up. Claire (cornet), Colin (BBb bass) and Sophie (BBb bass) Whitworth have all joined the band recently, so this was their first outing with us. Additionally we had a small guest join us for a couple of numbers in the second half. Amelie Read, daughter of Matt (principal cornet) and Lynda (former horn), joined the cornet section with her plastic trumpet. Amelie is not yet 2, and whilst she can't play the cornet yet, she was really enjoying being part of the band with her Daddy.

We'd like to thank the staff and customers at the Windwhistle Inn. We hope you enjoyed our playing and hope you will invite us back again next year.
