Roger Newton Memorial Concert
Every concert a band performs in leaves them with a sense of euphoria but last night was something different, something a little bit special. A coming together of different bands to celebrate the life of Roger Newton who lost his life suddenly to Meningitis earlier this year.
The evening commenced with a set from Chard Concert Brass playing a selection of pieces including the Torchbearer March by Eric Ball and Mark Ronson's Uptown Funk which was then followed by Phoenix Brass whose repertoire featured T.J Powell's 'The Bombardier' and Eric Ball's 'Kingdom Triumphant'.
The concert concluded with a massed band set with Christmas Pieces, Troika and Shneewalzer, Paul Lovett-Cooper's 'Dark Side of the Moon' and one of Rogers favourite pieces 'Ticket to Ride' by Lennon and McCartney.
The Meningitis Research charity who were in attendance were thrilled that the concert had raised over £1,600 and explained that the money would be used to fund research into vaccinations in to preventing this swift moving and devastating illness that can cause death or leave a person with life long side effects. To date the development of the Meningitis C vaccine has helped to almost eradicate it in the UK.
Phoenix Brass are proud to have been a part of this special concert, helping to raise money for such a great cause and to celebrate the life of a valued player and a dear friend.
